Lugo offer GDPR seminars to ICAS members
As the trusted IT partner to many accountants across Scotland since 2003, Lugo have always taken the security of the businesses we work with very seriously. We are proud to partner with SonicWall, global network security experts, to help our customers prevent ransomware, encrypted threats and phishing attacks in real time.
In light of recent cyber-attacks across the country, it is all the more important to ensure you are taking every step possible to mitigate the chance of becoming a victim of cybercrime. The damage one of these attacks could do to your business’s reputation could be irreversible, notwithstanding the time and money spent recovering your clients’ confidential information.
With the imminent changes in data protection legislation when the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is enforced from 25 May 2018, it’s vital your business is taking all the necessary steps to prepare. Any company, big or small, will have to comply with new regulations regarding the secure collection, storage and usage of personal information. What’s more, violations will be met with fines of up to €20 million or 4% or annual global turnover, whichever is higher. For many businesses, the threat of insolvency or even closure as a result of GDPR penalties will soon be very real.
As ICAS Partners, Lugo will be running GDPR educational seminars at the end of November across Scotland. These will cover the legal requirements and practical steps you can take to prepare, along with advice and support going forward.
A simple step you and your colleagues can take today to protect yourselves against financial fraud is to look at the advice offered by the Take Five campaign, which offers straight-forward and impartial advice to help everyone in the UK.
